The unique architecture of the Pantheon in Rome marks this place as one of the city’s true icons. Visiting it was quite confusing at first, but it was worth it to see the perfect sphere that still baffles architects today. After the Pantheon, we visited three basilicas: the Basilica di Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, which stands in front of an obelisk guarded by a small elephant, followed by the Basilica di Santa Prassede, and finally the absolutely incredible Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the four papal basilicas in Rome.

This Sunday felt unforgettable. We visited the Colosseum, the Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II and the colossal statue of Constantino beside the Musei Capitolini. After two basilicas and one church, our energy returned thanks to a perfect Toscana panino from All’Antico Vinaio.

After exploring the arena, we wandered through the Foro Romano and climbed Palatine Hill, surrounded by temples, houses, and ruins that reveal the true richness of the Roman Empire.

One of the best reasons to visit Rome, or any part of Italy, is the food. After visiting the Vatican and Trastevere, we spent the next hours of Saturday trying gastronomic delights, first at Open Baladin and then at the restaurant Mino, for traditional and delicious food.

After visiting the Vatican, we wanted to explore the Trastevere neighborhood, one of the most vibrant in the city. To do that, we climbed the Gianicolo hill, where at the top we found the most spectacular view of Rome. Also, the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola was one of the highlights of the area. The weekend started with a visit to the Vatican Museums, wandering through more than a thousand rooms before reaching the Sistine Chapel. If you’ve booked tickets in advance, make sure to use the fast‑track entrance so you don’t get stuck in the queue. After a quick lunch, we headed to St. Peter’s Basilica, the most important church in the Vatican. The cupola and Michelangelo’s Pietà are among its unforgettable highlights. Although the basilica is free to enter, I’d still recommend buying the €7 skip‑the‑line ticket online to avoid queuing for hours. Pizza tradicional romana e os melhores destaques da cidade à noite
Friday in Rome ended with a stop at Pinsere for a quick pinsa, the traditional roman pizza, before meeting my husband at the station. Later, we visited key sights of Rome starting with the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia, Foro Traiano and ending with the iconic Colosseum. We wrapped up the day with drinks at Bar do’Brasil before heading back to the Aquarius Inn.

When the conference had finished, I moved from the Quirinale Hotel to the Aquarius Inn guesthouse, where the owner gave me tons of ideas and tips to explore the city. I spent the afternoon exploring so many places, especially around the Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II, my favourite area of Rome. After visiting the Orange Garden and the Piramide di Cestio, it was finally time to return to the city and try the famous and truly delicious pistachio croissant at L’Antico Forno di Fontana di Trevi.

Second evening exploring Rome before the trip truly began. I spent time around the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, a church born from a prophetic vision. Afterwards, I wandered through the Villa Borghese gardens, where every corner reveals a fountain, sculpture, or statue. Definitely a place to include in any Rome itinerary.
