It was unexpected to find the Rome Marathon happening on the day we visited the Colosseum, but crossing barriers meant fewer crowds. After exploring the arena, we wandered through the Foro Romano and climbed Palatine Hill, surrounded by temples, houses, and ruins that reveal the true richness of the Roman Empire.
