Second day of our trip to Marseille. The hot weather could be felt from the early hours of the morning, but before giving up and heading to Cassis, we visited the beautiful Palais Longchamp and the church Les Réformés, with its tall entrance towers and stunning stained‑glass windows. At the end of the morning, we visited one of the most famous places in Marseille, the basilique Notre‑Dame de la Garde.... We spent our first afternoon in Marseille uncovering the origins of the iconic Navettes and tasting them at a beloved local bakery. Then we wandered through Le Panier, the city’s quirkiest neighbourhood, before ending the night on a terrace overlooking the glowing Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica. We spent our first day in Marseille exploring its historic heart including the cathedral, the old port and the Château d’If, once a prison between 1541 and 1945. We ended the day at Plage des Catalans before unwinding with a drink in a cosy Irish pub. This is the first post about my four days in the south of France, exploring Marseille and Aix‑en‑Provence.
